The Saskatoon Jazz Orchestra will be performing Duke Ellington’s Sacred Concert music.
Two of our guest artists will be long time Ellingtonian band members James Zollar and Brad Shigeta.
Our guest vocalist is Dee Daniels.
Also. we are delighted to have 24 members of the UofS Greystone Singers join us on stage.
Our guest conductor is the award winning Canadian composer/arranger Fred Stride.
“This music,” said Ellington “is the most important thing I’ve ever done, or am ever likely to do. This is personal, not career.”

Past Canadian Senator, Musical Director of the Olympic Games & Commonwealth Games, TV & Radio personality, Member of the Order of Canada, Juno Award Winner Tommy Banks has done it all in the music business. Banks’ piano playing, his arrangements and his charm will delight audiences of all ages when he is joined by the swinging sounds of the SJO and Saskatoon’s own Shelly Ewing!
This Count Basie Re-imagined concert will include classic swing era big band arrangements closely associated with the iconic Count Basie Orchestra and, fresh-and-modern imaginations of similar Basie-type repertoire. Along with the Saskatoon Jazz Orchestra there will be four special guest artists for this concert. From MacEwan University – Ray Baril (sax/guest conductor); from Brandon University – Greg Gatien (sax) and Eric Platz (drums); from Winnipeg, MB – Jeff Presslaff (piano/guest composer).
