October 4, 2015: SJO Season Opener Concert
Broadway Theatre

Tickets available via the Broadway Theatre (on line https://broadwaytheatre.ca, at Broadway Theatre box office or through calling 306-652-6556). $35 (adults), $30 (current SJS members), $15 (students).

Show billing: SJO presents Music Of Our Time with special guest multi-Juno Award winning Canadian pianist/composer David Braid (davidbraid.com). This much-anticipated collaboration between the SJO and David Braid will showcase seminally Braid and his profoundly imaginative and creative large jazz ensemble compositions. Repertoire may also include contemporary repertoire by current large jazz ensemble composers/arrangers such as Jim McNeely, John MacLeod, Bret Zvacek, Dean McNeill and others. This concert is presented in conjunction with David Braid’s fall 2015 UofS College of Arts and Science Artist in Residency.

December 5, 2015: SJO/SSO collaboration, TCU Place
Saskatoon Symphony / SJO collaboration presenting the Nutcracker Suite

The great jazz musician Duke Ellington took Tchaikovsky’s beloved classic The Nutcracker Suite and flipped it on its head creating Ellington’s own Nutcracker Suite. The Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra will perform alongside the Saskatoon Jazz Orchestra for the first time in this evening that pairs Tchaikovsky’s music with Ellington’s. Full of Christmas fun, this will be be one of the most memorable nights of the year.

Reimagining The Music of Count Basie

Count Basie Reimagined!!! This concert will include classic swing era big band arrangements closely associated with the icon Count Basie Orchestra and, fresh-&-modern imaginations of similar Basie-type repertoire. The 4 special guest artists will include Ray Baril, Greg Gatien, Eric Platz and Jeff Presslaff.

Past Canadian Senator, Musical Director of the Olympic Games & Commonwealth Games, TV & Radio personality, Member of the Order of Canada, Juno Award Winner Tommy Banks has done it all in the music business. Banks’ piano playing, his arrangements and his charm will delight audiences of all ages when he is joined by the swinging sounds of the SJO and Saskatoon’s own Shelly Ewing!
